Who This Is For

✔ High-volume print shops

✔ Apparel brands scaling production

✔ Brokers managing multiple orders

✔ Businesses that need consistent reorders

✔ Shops that can’t afford reprints or delays

Where Most DTF Breaks Down

  • Slower press times reduce output
  • Second presses add unnecessary labor
  • Reorders don’t match
  • Poly fabrics introduce dye migration issues

These aren’t edge cases — they show up the moment you try to scale.

File Quality/Resolution

For raster artwork, print quality comes down to how many real pixels are available at the size you intend to print. A file can be labeled “300 DPI” and still be too small. Changing that number does not create additional detail.

What Do DPI and PPI Mean?

  • Pixels are the individual points of color that make up a digital image.
  • PPI means pixels per inch. It describes how many image pixels are available for each inch of the finished print.
  • DPI means dots per inch and technically describes the output of a printer. In everyday artwork conversations, “300 DPI” is often used to mean an image containing roughly 300 pixels per printed inch.

Image Dimensions Matter More Than the DPI Label

The actual pixel dimensions of the file determine how large it can be printed clearly.

  • A 4-inch-wide image at 300 PPI needs approximately 1,200 pixels of width.
  • A 12-inch-wide image at 300 PPI needs approximately 3,600 pixels of width.

The basic calculation is:

Print size in inches × desired PPI = required pixel dimensions

This is why the final print size matters. The same file may look clean as a small left-chest print but appear soft or pixelated when enlarged for a full back.

For more help determining the correct proportions and print dimensions, see our guide to aspect ratios and sizing artwork .

Why Increasing DPI Does Not Create Detail

Changing a file from 72 DPI to 300 DPI does not automatically improve it. If the original image does not contain enough pixels, the software must enlarge or interpolate the existing information.

Upscaling can sometimes soften rough edges or make a file more usable, but it cannot reliably recreate fine lines, clean lettering, or details that were never present in the original.

Think of it like stretching a small picture printed on a balloon. The image becomes larger, but no new detail is added.

Raster Artwork vs. Vector Artwork

  • Raster files, such as PNG and JPG files, are made from pixels and have a practical size limit.
  • Vector files, such as properly created SVG, EPS, and AI files, are built from paths and can usually be resized without losing edge quality.

A PNG can produce an excellent DTF transfer when it contains enough resolution at the intended print size. It does not need to be vector simply because it will be printed.

Why This Matters for DTF Transfers

If the artwork does not contain enough detail, the finished transfer will not either—regardless of who prints it.

JDC’s production process is built to preserve the detail that exists in your artwork, not disguise or invent what is missing.

  • ✔ Production profiles optimized for clean, consistent output
  • ✔ Artwork preview and sizing during the ordering process
  • ✔ Repeatable results built for real production

Frequently Asked Questions

Looking for answers about DTF transfers, turnaround times, artwork requirements, or production workflows? You're in the right place.

Who are your DTF transfers best suited for?

Our transfers are designed for production environments — including print shops, apparel brands, and brokers that need speed, consistency, and reliable turnaround.

How do I place an order?

The fastest way to place an order is directly through our website. You'll have access to real-time pricing, quantity discounts, account history, and order tracking.

For custom apparel, embroidery, or special requests, email us with details including artwork, sizes, quantities, and garment styles.

---

Do I need a wholesale account?

Wholesale accounts are available for customers with valid Sales Tax Exemption documentation (such as an ST-5).

Once approved, you'll receive tax-exempt status and access to discounted pricing tiers. Be sure you're logged in to see correct pricing at checkout.

---

How fast is your turnaround?

Orders placed online (DTF transfers, vinyl, and supplies) before 2PM EST are typically printed and shipped the same day.

Custom apparel, embroidery, and larger production jobs are generally completed within 5–7 business days after proof approval and payment.

---

Why are your DTF transfers faster than others?

Our Instant Peel transfers are built for production:

  • ✔ Press at 260°F for 6 seconds
  • ✔ Instant peel — no cooldown required
  • ✔ No second press needed

This reduces total production time and increases output per hour — especially for high-volume shops.

---

Do your DTF transfers require a second press?

No. Our transfers are instant peel and require no second press, saving time and simplifying your workflow.

---

What fabrics do your transfers work on?

Our DTF transfers are designed for cotton, polyester, and blends — including high-bleed and performance fabrics.

Our lower press temperature (260°F) helps reduce dye migration and ghosting on sensitive materials.

---

Will my reorders match previous orders?

Yes. We use independent color profiling across our production lines to ensure consistent results — regardless of where your order is produced.

---

Does artwork quality matter?

Yes — significantly. DTF printing can only reproduce the detail that exists in your file.

Low-resolution artwork will not improve during printing — it will only become more noticeable.

Using Holographic DTF Transfers (Direct to Film)

As a starting point set your heatpress to 260°F, press for 10 seconds with heavy pressure. After Pressing wait for transfer to cool. Once Cold, peel backing film from garmet.

Be Careful with fine lines as they have a tendancy to stick to the film, we've found a fast, snapping motion to be most effective when working with this material.

Use a lint roller (sticky) to remove excess foil from the edges of your design and apply a second heat press with a protective sheet.

Check out this video for more helpful tips.

Some adjustment may be required with your setup to get this just right for your needs. Try different settings until you are getting consistant results with your equipment.

NOTE: Although this product is amazing, as a cold peel it has certain limitations. Be sure to allow your design enough thickness so you don't loose finelines and details when peeling.
